Description:
Vanderbilt University Virtual School develops programs to integrate technologies in teaching and learning, builds virtual learning communities, and focuses on the use of videoconferencing to enhance K-12 curriculum and teacher professional development. Working in collaboration with K-12 schools, universities, informal educators, and the community, the Virtual School matches curriculum needs with national educational standards and links K-12 classrooms to resources beyond their four walls via real-time, interactive videoconferencing using H.323 IP and Internet 2 technology. Collaborative projects include literature, author/book talks, art, music, modern explorers, science, social studies, democracy, Holocaust studies, mental health, nutrition, space, Black History Month studies, humanities, history, Women's studies, special education, career exploration, character education, community interests, health/physical education, performing arts, problem solving, life skills, technology, Race for the Presidency, cultural awareness, and hot topics. Vanderbilt Virtual School encourages schools to make the best use of videoconferencing technology to enhance learning by connecting students and teachers to experts, by assisting schools in planning videoconferences with other sites, and establishing collaborations with other schools.

Vanderbilt Virtual School offers a wide variety of topics on age appropriate levels.
Vanderbilt Virtual School provides up to date, useful materials to teachers and schools in the middle Tennessee area. They have workshops to educate teachers in current technology and provide both software and hardware to participants.Their outreach is interdisciplinary and applicable to all grade levels pre-K to grade 12.
Vanderbilt Virtual School's series on the Holocaust was the most relevant applications for "today" and gave students a chance to feel the experience and not just read about it or watch a video.
Patsy Partin and her team are excellent! From training to communication to technology they do it all the right way. And the offerings are diverse, interesting and relevant.

Vanderbilt Virtual School provides access to presenters on diverse topics. Students can interact and question these presenters including Holocaust survivors, university professors, musicians, speakers on many different careers, and political movers and shakers.
Time format works well with High School and Middle School students.
20 minutes of lecture and 20 minutes of interactive questioning.
It was a fresh topic for our students, it gave them a challenge - presented with a generous variety for media.

They present very specific and focused content. Teachers appreciate the fine-tuned subject matter.

The Vanderbilt virtual school program provides a wide variety of Career Experts at a reasonable cost. Their programs allow students to learn about a variety of careers and to ask questions to the career experts.
The Vanderbilt University Virtual School offers an outstanding Holocaust series, an informative and helpful Career series, and its Black History month presenters in February illustrate and exemplify the concepts of equality and diversity in our society.

Vanderbilt Virtual School and the Center for Science Outreach has offered some wonderful free programs. Nothing beats "Freaky Friday" at Halloween time.
