Description:
iNK Think Tank's Authors on Call is an electrifying team of award-winning nonfiction children’s book authors. We do interactive video conferencing programs for students, based on our books. We collaborate with teachers to meet the Common Core standards of research, sifting, crafting, and creating content about the real world. The iNK programs are a brand-new idea for education; yet they're as age-old as eras when students flocked to learn from great masters. Now you can bring these masters to you via
technology.

We are experts in both content and the craft of writing. And if you want your students to think critically, it's helpful if you give them something to think critically about. We provide that in spades.

Educator Comments:
Comments from teachers who’ve worked with Authors on Call
“Overall, I am so honored that my class was able to participate in such a meaningful project. They not only learned the content of our Government unit but they also learned how to become nonfiction authors with advice from an expert! I know the students will always remember the work they did for this project, the lessons they learned through hands-on experience, and the fun they had!” Heather Santoro 4th grade teacher.
“As teachers, we learned how to turn this very abstract unit into something where the students can utilize the inquiry process. We restructured our current lessons on the Solar System to supplement the new material in the book, What’s the Big Idea? This allowed us to provide the students with the conceptual understanding of material covered on our unit assessment.” Carla Christiana, Alicia Palmeri, 3rd grade teachers.
“We were so fortunate to work with David Schwartz. The students really enjoyed listening and learning about how he gathers his ideas for poetry. They found it interesting how he weaves science and math into his Where in the Wild? “ Kerry Murphy, 3rd grade teacher
“We gained much from our conversations with Dorothy [Patent] She helped put a face on what ‘real world’ writing looks like. We got a chance to see the experience of writing from a professional writer.” Stephanie Pirsos, 3rd grade teacher.
“I expected a remote connection with an author would be…well, remote—a bobbing head on a big screen, not nearly as engaging as a real person in real time. Boy, was I wrong. You see, the ways these sessions are designed, you get to know the author you’re working with.” –Chris Kostenko, 5th grade teacher
“I can also say that the project, if it was to affect the enthusiasm for learning, and to make the research and exploration of information meaningful, and to make the end products more memorable, was a success.”—Jason Parkhurst, 5th grade teacher.
“Initially, this experience was supposed to focus on a book Alexandra [Siy] has written, but I feel as though the students are getting so much more out of this by learning about what it means to be an author rather than just focusing on one subject/topic. Mrs. Siy has been very flexible in working with us and adjusting what was the initial plan into something that is turning out to be meaningful and beneficial to the students as they learn what it means to be a writer.”—Heather Walker, 5th grade teacher
“I often teach students to find an author they just love, then to read and read and read. Authors on Call will allow my students face-to-face time with an author they have just studied, and give them the opportunity to connect with them beyond the written words. I find this exciting, innovative and full of possibility.”—Erika Zeccardi, 5th grade teacher.
