Technical Information
Participants must have access to a two-way audio-video teleconferencing system operating at 384K or faster. Currently, all programs will be conducted through IP, with the assistance of ETECH Ohio Bridging Services. Schools are responsible for dialing into eTech Ohio Bridging Service/Cleveland Metroparks Zoo and providing all connection information at the time of registration; including valid IP number for connecting site. Registrations received without completed field information and IP numbers will be cancelled. Connection information will be provided to you in a follow-up confirmation email, a week prior to the scheduled program. If you are an ISDN site, you may be able to be connected through a bridge provided by ETECH Ohio Bridging Services. All bridge connections are setup by Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. Sites connecting with Cleveland Metroparks Zoo for the first time need to complete a successful test connection by calling eTech Ohio at 1-877-843-3640. This needs to be done within 1-2 weeks prior to your scheduled program and sites are responsible for any charges that may incur while making that connection. If your connection has any special needs, please place that information in the "Additional Comments" section at the end of the registration. Example: Special Ed. class, dial-in to bridge, dial-out only, and IP alias or extension. Please note: If your site is using a bridge service for your connections, you are responsible for setting up conference information, time-zones changes, test connections, etc... In addition, if your site uses a dynamic (bridge assigned or changing)IP address, you will be instructed to contact ETECH Ohio Bridge with the current IP number approximately 30 minutes prior to the start of the conference.

Registration must be completed on-line (choose a category from the distance learning main page, then click the "register now" link for the particular program). If the program fills up, there is an opportunity for 1 school to be on the waitlist. This will be stated on your Registration Confirmation page in the order details. If on waitlist, you are not considered in the program. We will make contact with teacher and technology contacts if an opening occurs. When registering for a program, your final page will state "processing request." You will receive a Registration Confirmation page via email.

Educator Comments:
Cleveland Metroparks Zoo offers distance learning trips on a wide variety of topics. The presenters from the zoo are very knowledgeable in their content area and answer the student questions very well. Offering the programs for free to my schools is also wonderful because it enables many of my students at both of my schools, Cleveland Elementary and Garfield Elementary, to be involved without having to spend all of our small technology budget on the many programs in which we participate. The student love the interactivity of the distance learning programs through the Cleveland Zoo.

Cleveland Metroparks Zoo provides many different video conferences tied to the Science standards and benchmarks. They provide interaction for the children and the students enjoy them. The best part is they are FREE.

This was my very first time with a videoconference program. I thought the content was good, however the picture was not really that clear. I have kindergarten children, and I thought that we would be seeing The "zoo." I was thinking the children would be able to look at the zoo's exhibit of bats. I was hoping they could "see" the bats in their habitat, and could see where they live, maybe how they care for their babies etc. It was an interesting program, and I would try this again.

We had technical difficulties. But from the parts of the program that we were able to watch it was very good. If the equipment had worked properly, I feel the presentor would have been excellent and the children would have enjoyed it more. We will try another program from the Cleveland Zoo in the future.

The program itself was great. If the technical problems are resolved, I can see that my students would have gotten more out of the presentation.

Cleveland Zoo does a great job and their content is free.

The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo does a variety of programs for all grade levels. They offer two sessions per year--fall & winter. The best part is they are FREE!!!
