Technical Information
New connection information! In order to successfully connect with the Zoo, you will need to have either an H.323 (IP) videoconferencing facility or access to a bridging service to convert H.320 (ISDN) to IP. It should be a synchronous connection with 384k available. ISDN sites may use their own bridge to connect, or they can certify with the Zoo's bridge, IHETS. There is an extra $8.00 charge to use this service, but sites must certify beforehand by going to http://www.ihets.org/forms/va_video_certification/index.html. All programs begin on the hour and include a 15 minute test period before instruction begins. Please make sure that someone is in your media center with the equipment on and running to ensure proper video and audio transmision before the program begins. All program time are Indianapolis time (ET). All connections (unless specially arranged) are a total of 60 minutes, including the 15 minute test prior to the program. Actual instruction time is 45 minutes. Contact the Distance Learning Coordinator at (317) 630-2044 or dlearning@indyzoo.com for more information.

Description:
Zoos have the power to carry us from the frozen fields of Antarctica to the deepest jungles of South America. With a Distance Learning program, your class can reach across the miles for an amazing learning experience. The Indianapolis Zoological Society (IZS) invites you to connect with that power right in your own classroom.

An Interactive Experience Beyond the Exhibits
As one of the first zoos in the country to offer two-way interactive video adventures, the Indianapolis Zoo connects with students across Indiana, throughout the United States, and around the world. Students learn about the Earth, the environment, and the wonderful range of creatures that share it during each of these video adventures.  We expand their classroom walls beyond their community.
