Description
Vicki Cobb brings her entertaining biography of Harry Houdini to life through readings from her book and a slide show of photos and posters. She also discusses the process of writing a biography and what the author must bring to the project.
The students will:
*gain an understanding of everyday life at the end *of the nineteenth and beginning of the 20th centuries.
*gain an appreciation for Houdini's ethics--when is it ok to fool people and when is it not?
*learn some of the techniques needed to write a biography, especially about someone who is as well-documented as Houdini
*gain some understanding of the drive behind the success of a first-generation American, son of poor immigrants.

No special preparation is necessary. However, students may want to read the book. It is available from Amazon at about $5.00 for the paperback.
