Description

ArtSmart Butterflies iconPreparation
This program integrates a lesson on the life cycle of the monarch butterfly while teaching the basics of drawing. Students will analyze a photograph and illustrate a butterfly in its habitat. ArtSmart programs utilize multiple pathways to learning, helping students achieve academic success.

Classroom Preparation
Teacher will provide each student with two sheets of plain, white copy paper, pencils, markers, and crayons for this lesson. Extra copy paper should be in the room in case any student needs to begin again.

Students will need to be seated at tables with their own set of supplies to minimize classroom disruptions or disagreements over limited supplies. If tables are not available, have each student bring an individual drawing space.

Complete lesson plan will be emailed upon registration for this program

Lesson Objectives
Students will
• explain the life cycle of the butterfly prior to the drawing.
• review the migration of the monarch and analyze its adaptation to the environment.
• evaluate a photograph and compose a stylized drawing.
